10 tips for saving fuel

One of the most effective ways of achieving this is by adopting what is known as eco-driving, a set of driving habits that help you to reduce fuel consumption, save money and limit pollutant emissions. Depending on the vehicle and the driver's habits, eco-driving can save between 5% and 15% on fuel consumption.
Eco-driving is about using your car as efficiently as possible. It's based on common sense, anticipation (before and on the road) and flexibility.
With a few simple gestures, you can optimise your use of fuel. Here are our top tips for economical driving:
Check your tyre pressure (every month)
Under-inflated tyres flex and deform more, causing greater rolling resistance. As an indication, with an under-inflation of 0.6 bar you already consume 4% more fuel...
Lighten your load
Every extra kilogram increases fuel consumption by 0.2%. As well as emptying the boot, don't forget to remove roof boxes, which can increase fuel consumption by 10-15%, and oversized ski racks and aerials, which can increase fuel consumption by 5-8%.
Maintain your car
A poorly maintained vehicle can increase fuel consumption by 25%. Cleaning the engine with 5-in-1 engine cleaner, petrol or diesel, can reduce fuel consumption.
Plan your route
To avoid congested areas, plan your route. By plotting the most efficient route, you can avoid getting stuck in traffic jams, getting lost or making unnecessary detours, and therefore limit sudden braking and acceleration, or even sudden stops and starts. This will save you time and fuel.
Leave on time
It's better to be a few minutes ahead than trying to make up 5 minutes on the road...
Get off to a smooth start
As early as the 1st few minutes, because a cold engine consumes much more fuel (10 to 15 times more fuel on the 1st km than when hot, according to ADEME) and engage the top gear without delay to avoid over-revving, which leads to 20% higher fuel consumption: for petrol and LPG cars, the top gear should be engaged before 2500 rpm, for diesel cars, before 2000 rpm.
Avoid sudden changes
Stop sudden acceleration and braking. This wastes fuel and increases emissions. Instead, accelerate and brake gradually whenever possible. Anticipate slowing down too: use the engine brake rather than the brake pedal.
Activate Cruise Control
Maintain a constant speed! One of the easiest ways to improve your fuel efficiency is to maintain a constant speed. Use cruise control whenever possible: the cruise control function allows you to maintain a constant speed and can improve fuel consumption by up to 5%.
Reduce your speed
When you drive at high speed, wind resistance increases and you need more fuel to overcome it. Conversely, driving at lower speeds reduces wind resistance and improves fuel economy. At speeds above 90 km/h, every 10 km/h increase in speed means an extra 3 to 10% in fuel consumption.
Switch off the air conditioning
The electricity produced by the vehicle's alternator consumes fuel and can cause an increase in fuel consumption of 10% on the road and 25% in town. Less air conditioning also means 15% less CO2 emissions over 100 km...
Bardahl products for consuming less
Consume Less Gasoline and Diesel
To help you save on fuel, Bardahl France has developed two products: "Consume Less Gasoline" and "Consume Less Diesel." These innovative additive treatments are designed to help your car's engine run more efficiently and consume less fuel by keeping the injection system clean.
Effective from the first tank, the "Consume Less" treatment is easy to use. Simply add the recommended amount of product to your fuel tank before filling up.
With the increase in gasoline prices
It has never been more important to learn how to drive economically.
By making a few simple changes to your driving habits, you can significantly reduce your fuel consumption and save money at the same time.
Bardahl products are specially designed to help reduce fuel consumption and your driving budget. So don't wait any longer: try eco-driving, and you'll stick with it! Your wallet and the environment will thank you…
