How and why should you clean your engine before an oil change?

Traffic density in large urban areas does not help the situation at all; traffic jams, cold starts, short trips, and lack of acceleration all contribute to engine congestion. What does this have to do with an oil change, you might ask? Simply put, if a problem occurs in any of the vehicle’s components without triggering a warning on the dashboard, your engine can become clogged, leading to a buildup of carbon deposits in the intake and starting a cycle of contamination.
Why clean your engine before an oil change?
Carbon deposits accumulated in the intake or on the top of the engine due to poor combustion inevitably end up in your engine. During the "scraping" of the piston, the carbon contaminates the oil. Although your system is protected by an oil filter, it won't prevent deposits from forming in the oil pan (bottom of the engine) or in other components requiring continuous lubrication, such as the turbo or camshaft in the upper part of the engine (cylinder head).
What are the risks of a delayed oil change or an uncleaned engine?
- Low oil pressure
- Premature wear of mechanical components (turbo, camshaft, pistons, etc.)
- Engine failure in extreme cases of contamination
- Formation of "mayo" when condensation mixes with the oil
How to clean your engine before an oil change?
Bardahl has been an expert in the automotive field for over 75 years. We have designed and refined the Pre-Oil Change Cleaner to ensure it is also gentle on your engine. It is safe for your engine components!
How to Use Bardahl's Pre-Oil Change Cleaner:
- It's simple: just pour our pre-oil change additive through the oil filler cap.
- Let the engine run for 20 minutes to ensure the additive circulates thoroughly through the oil system.
- Turn off your engine and proceed with the oil change.
- Be sure to replace the oil filter properly.
How Does Bardahl's Pre-Oil Change Cleaner Work?
- Bardahl's Pre-Oil Change Cleaner dissolves sludge and deposits present in the oil, making it easier to remove them during the oil change.
- It cleans hydraulic valve lifters, transmission systems (such as those in motorcycles), and all lubricated parts of the engine (pistons, turbo, lower and upper engine components, etc.).
- Your new oil will not be contaminated by residual old oil, and you'll benefit from a cleaner, better-lubricated engine.
For which engines should the pre-oil change cleaner be used?
- For all types of engines, including petrol, diesel, natural gas, LPG, hybrid engines, with or without DPF / turbo, etc.
- Our additive is compatible with all types of oils on the market (mineral, semi-synthetic, and synthetic) and is also compatible with catalytic converters.
- Dissolves, loosens, and keeps all types of deposits in suspension.
- Cleans the entire engine circuit.
- Prevents premature engine wear.
- For all types of oil and all types of engines.
