Properly maintaining your motorcycle
A well-cleaned motorcycle and regular routine checks will protect your ride.

CLEAN WELL + CHECK WELL = LONGER LIFE (AND/OR BETTER RESALE)

The material

  • A mechanical toolbox
  • A high pressure water jet
  • An air compressor
  • A multi-purpose lubricant BARDAHL BD50 (REF 3221)
  • A BARDAHL Power Spray, dry lubricant (REF 3271)
  • A FOAMY, High Speed or Racing BARDAHL chain spray (REF 601029, 600029, 2810)
  • A SPECIAL BARDAHL AIR FILTER OIL (REF701039)
  • A POLY S2 BARDAHL REF 1700 or Cap Horn 1790 Grease cartridge
  • A cleansing foam CLEAN MOUSSE BARDAHL ref 3914
  • A BARDAHL Shining Shampoo REF 38915
  • A POLISH BARDAHL 38913

Clean and protect

  • Caution for engines that do not like water, be sure to provide a filter cover after removing the air filter and the exhaust cap.
  • A high-pressure water jet and then 38915 shampoo diluted with hot water.
  • Dry gently and quickly: nothing beats a quick blast, especially around the engine.
  • For the engine and exhaust, good protection with a light film of BD50 or Power Spray will be ideal against rust pitting.
  • Don’t forget to reassemble the filter and apply a “balm” to the contour (STOP Dust or Sand): thick grease REF 1700 or 1790 as well as AIR FILTER OIL if necessary (depending on the model). This does not apply to liquid-cooled motorcycles.

Chain – Tension and lubrication

  • A simple way: the 3-finger rule!
  • That is to say 3 to 5cm between your chain and the swing arm, or at the level of the chain guide.
  • If the tension is too high or too low, refer to our section on “maintaining your chain kit properly”, the same goes for its lubrication.

Check the wear of the pads

  • A simple visual check is enough! Is there enough material?
  • No joke: if they are worn out, you change them!

The tires

  • For the studs, check the edges! The more rounded they are, the less grip they will have.
  • Identify the wear indicators generally indicated by triangles on the sidewalls of the tire.
  • Again, no joke: worn tire = tire to change!

Check the oil level

A simple visual check is enough. But be careful: with a straight motorcycle and not placed on its side stand.
If necessary, adjust the level with BARDAHL C60 OIL, a concentrate of vitamins for engines!

Check the screws

To avoid losing your mind or damaging your threads, take the time to check that the screws are properly tightened with a torque wrench.

For some, you can use the BARDAHL GELDOZ Threadlocker ref 5042 or the NUT FIXER ref 49907

Check orders

Before setting off again, a final check is recommended on the electronic operation, the clutch cable, the throttle, and your gear changes!

Now you can set off with peace of mind for a few thousand kilometers!!!
