Turbo seizes up

Carbon builds up over time and can affect your turbo, causing it to lose performance. This can lead to loss of power and excess fuel consumption! But with our solutions, you will avoid your turbo seizing up. Degreasing and cleaning the turbo is within everyone's reach!
How does a turbo work?
Whether for a petrol or diesel engine, the single or variable geometry turbocharger can significantly increase performance by compressing the volume of air entering the engine.
The system is relatively simple. Your exhaust gases activate a turbine at the heart of the turbo. On this same turbine axis is another turbine which compresses the air and sends it directly into the intake of your engine. This guarantees a much higher volume of admitted air.
This volume of air is regulated by a wastegate and is then cooled by the intercooler before entering the air intake.
How and why does a turbo get dirty?
The turbo is an engine component placed on the exhaust manifold. It is therefore in direct contact with the exhaust gases as well as the soot that sticks to it. Over time, the turbo therefore inevitably becomes clogged.
Moreover, its various vital parts are affected, such as the wastegate valve, the variable geometry, but also the turbines! All of this causes a drop in engine performance that can lead to other problems, or even the replacement of the turbo.
This is when the degradation cycle of your engine really begins! This affects its performance, again increasing the risk of fouling on other components, not to mention the risk that the turbo will go into safety mode or break in full effort. It's a matter of your safety!
Why clean your turbo?
The reason is simple: maintaining your engine is essential to increase the lifespan of your vehicle and, above all, reduce repair costs. But that's not all!
Cleaning your Turbo with Bardahl products :
- Helps eliminate soot and carbon deposits that cause turbo seizing
- Cleans without dismantling the moving parts, the variable geometry and the turbo fins
- Reduces fouling of the turbo, EGR valve, particulate filter, exhaust and catalytic converter
- Reduces seizure and improves turbo performance
- Limits excess fuel consumption and pollutant emissions
- Increases engine efficiency through better diffusion of exhaust gases
- Extends turbo life
How do I know if my turbo needs cleaning?
Prevention is always better than cure. With preventive use of our additives, you will avoid problems with clogged or seized turbos. If you have not yet had this reflex, know that many symptoms can alert you before breaking down. This is never serious at first, but the consequences can be expensive in repairs if you do not react.
- Holes in acceleration
- Engine jerks
- Turbo whistle
- Lack of power between certain regimes
- Orange or red turbo engine light
- Difficulty exceeding 3000 rpm
- Operation in degraded “safety” mode (whether the engine is hot or cold)
- Turbo works better after restarting
How to clean and maintain the turbo?
The estimated cost for replacing the turbo varies from €1,500 to €4,000 depending on the model.
In order to avoid the costs associated with replacing your turbo, there are 2 solutions:
1. A bottle to pour into your fuel tank
Our additives are easy to use, just add them to your tank either as a preventative or curative measure.
- If you drive in the city or only make short trips, clean it every 5000 km or once a year with Bardahl Turbo Cleaner.
- You regularly drive on the motorway: clean every 10,000 km or once a year with Bardahl Turbo Cleaner
- Consider driving in a lower gear from time to time. For example, drive at 120 km/h in 5th gear, instead of 6th, for a period of 15 minutes.
2. Turbo and engine decarbonization
The most efficient and innovative process on the market for cleaning your turbo is Bardahl's eco-engine cleaning!
With the largest network of professionals in the world in this field, our 3000 experts decarbonize your engine to give it a new lease of life!
Where other hydrogen decarbonization methods try to clean all the organs of your engine by injecting a solution only into the intake, Bardahl treats each element independently for an optimal result! Your injectors, intake, EGR valve, turbo and DPF are cleaned between 30 minutes and 2 hours.
Concrete and immediate results
- A reduction in your consumption and therefore an increase in autonomy.
- A reduction in the opacity of exhaust fumes and therefore a reduction in harmful emissions.
- A smoother, more dynamic ride.
- A return to original power and responsiveness.
